Layer Properties Manager Dialog Gone

I think I've changed a setting that when I click on the Layer Properties Manager icon in Home-Toolspace or in the layers pulldown on the ribbon, all I get is text prompts asking for an option {?/Make/Set/New/Rename/ON/OFF/Color/etc.,etc.]

Can anyone tell me how to get the dialog back?

It is not CMDDIA or FILEDIA (before that gets suggested...)

What happens if you type in .LAYER (note the period prefix)?

That does the trick.  Thanks.

So the period prefix works? You can add this to your menu, but I have no idea how "layer" got redefined to call the command line version... Anybody there messing with you?

No, this is a Microstation shop.  Nobody here even looks at my machine for fear the boss will tell them to learn C3D!  Nobody would know how to play a prank with Acad.

What does the dot prefix mean, anyhow?

The period prefix tells AutoCAD to use the original, built in command, and ignore any redefinition of the command that may be present.  It's always good to use the period prefix in autolisp and menu macros because of this reason.
