Layer Names Gone

Every now and then all the layer names disappear from my layers dialog. I can add new, delete, freeze, off, etc. i just cant see the names of the layers. If i F2 to rename a layer the name shows up and remains visible until the edit is done, then it disappears again.. Issue also affects a few other columns.. see attached

TIA for any ideas!

You might try updating your video drivers to a newer version first.

Canned response yay..... Maybe i should update my sound card drivers too huh?

Now for something actually relevant:
gdi objects work the same across the entire windows platform
Theres no reason a listview in windows (using same system font as autocad's windows) would display correctly 100% of the time and a similar listview in autocad (using same system font) would display correctly only ~70% of the time unless you added some extra fun into the paint method.... like my disappearing text "feature".....

Any real help or suggestions? Message was edited by: Somepin

Aparently, my video card drivers were fixed in Civil3D 2006 SP2, because i no longer see this issue

Somepin,

Autodesk had investigated the issue reported by several users, found the
cause, and posted a resolution. Did that resolution not work for you?

As you may have noticed from the KB article, this is a cache corruption
issue and you may have observed that simply logging in as a different
user might not have triggered the problem, even though you would have
been running Civil3D on the same system. This is why these kinds of
issues are called "bugs" 🙂

It's hard to say what fixed the issue in your case. Did you not change
_anything_ else on your system between the time that you saw the issue
(12/1/2005) and your response here (2/10/2006)?

Any case, it's great you are not seeing the problem any more. Good luck.

Problem Fixed - Good enough for me
The only thing suggested in the KB article that i took to heart was deleting the gdi font cache, which did not correct the problem. IT assures me that video card drivers are not part of the automatic updates and have not been updated manually. Likewise, there are many other machines here that are identical/very similar to mine and no others have had the issue - unfortunately I am the only one in the office using Civil3d so IT automatically points the finger at AD. Has this issue been reported on other versions?

According to the Autodesk KB article that I posted a link to, yes.

Was gone for quite some time, but the missing layer dialog is back again. An acad restart fixes it 100% of the time, with no additional steps. Any ideas?

If you have followed the instructions in the KB article and that hasn't
helped, it's time to open a support case either through your reseller or
Autodesk so that this can be investigated.
