Layer Filter Problem

I want to create a Layer Filter that excludes both Civil Layers and Xrefs

I have created one that excludes Civil objects Smiley Happy (Excl Civil.jpg)  but when I add a filter for excluding xrefs as well the Civil objects appear in the filter again  - indeed all the layers are included again (Excl Xref.jpg); if I invert the filter nothing is dsplayed.

Anyone able to come up with the correct fllter for this??

Thanks

Not sure how to create a single filter. If you stack the filters by filtering the xrefs first then create a sub filter for the civil layers inside the xref filter, that works.

Hey thats a meme, ..."yo dawg, I heard you like filters, so I create afilter in your filter so you can filter your filter"

That stacking trick works - thanks

The Layer filter include layers from the filter in the first line being layers not starting with C- (which includes the xref layers) AND the layers from the filter in the second line being layers not including | (which includes the Civil layers) so in effect, you will only exclude xrefed civil layers.

There are two ways I can think of that you can achieve what you want.

  1. Set up a filter that includes the civil layer and the xref layers and then invert the filter. Basically what you have, but remove the tildes and then invert.
  2. Set up an exclusion filter for the civil layers and then create a sub filter of it to exclude the xref layers. This will filter the xref layers out of the layers which have already been filter of civil layers.

thanks for the explanation - I wondered if the filter was doing something as you described
