Land Desktop 2006 Points

I am running Civil 3D 2006 and just received a .dwg file containing Land
Desktop 2006 points.

I can't find a way to use this data to create a surface... Can it de done
and can anyone point me in the correct direction?

Thanks for any help y'all can give!

Hello,

After you open the file that was created in LDT you may want to first go to the General Pull-down menu and select Import Data From Land Desktop. Do you have just the drawing for LDT or the whole project. Hopefully you have the whole project because the points are stored in an external database.

If you are able to get the points from the LDT project you can then right-click on Surfaces under your Prospector tab, and select New. After you create your new surface, expand it, expand the definition tab and right click on Point Groups to add in your data.

Let me know if that works!

Hi Melanie,

Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately all I have is the .dwg file. I tried
"Import From Land Desktop" without any luck. The points are proxy
graphics... Does that matter?

Yes, unfortunately it does. There are a few things that I can recommend for you. I am not sure where you got the drawing from, but if you could

1. Get the project
2. Get the creator of the drawing to give you and LandXML file with the data or
3. Get the point file (.txt or ascii)

Then I can help you quickly and easily bring in the points and create a surface model.

Is it possible for you to get any of those forms of data?

Hi Rich,

If you go to the autodesk support pages there is a utility to convert
landdesktop points into civil 3d points. You can then work with them.

I ended up bringing the data into InRoads and generating the surface. I'm
trying to get away from doing that...

Next time I'll try to get the other supporting files and do it in Civil 3d.

Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it!
