Labeling Parcel No and areas

I'm trying to label the parcel number on a certain layer and label the areas on another layer so I can turn off the area labels on different sheets. Is there a way to do this within the Parcel > Label Styles > Area? I tried in the parent and child settings, but could not get it to work. It just seems out of place to label the parcel number in the area label style, am I missing a style somewhere?

Hello

You are NOT out of place to be looking in the area label for the parcel number. As far as trying to put your parcel number and area on different layers I don't know of a good way to do that on a sheet by sheet basis. In the area label style on the general tab there is an option to put the label in a specific layer, but I do not know of a way to put specific label components on different layers.

It can't be done. This falls near the top of my list of things that I wish
would be updated.

It's a major pain in the neck.

OK ladies and gentleman,
I think I've hit on topic that allows me to post this;
How do I put my Lot 1, Lot 2, Lot 3, etc...on a separate text style with a different text height than that of my Sq Ft. and Acres? Is the info from Lot 1, 2, 3...using the name template and that can't be assigned a separate text style? Been trying to find some info on this subject, and this posting seemed the best fit for my issue.

Thanks in advance

When you are editing the style, get to the Text Component Editor and hit the
vertical Format tab. Select the code to modify & change the font.

the method John described above will work fine for changing the fonts with your text component. If you want different text heights you'll need to break your one text component in to two. One for the Lot # and one for the area. Each one can have it's one text height. Anchor the top center of the area text component to the bottom center of the lot #.

Another option that's good for labels types that only give you one text component, like a profile title, is to copy the text component contents and paste it into a piece of MText. Format the text in the MText, copy it and paste it back into the text component. I've done this a few times and the formatting in the MText gets copied into the text component of the label.

i don;t think anyone mentioned the 2007 Note Label with Parcel Reference text trick.

Unfortunately it is one of James's posts which means it is decidely vague on procedure.

http://www.civil3d.com/index.php/2006/06/plat-problem-resolved/

In a nutshell
Make a new note label (under general)
In the text component editor, pull down and choose reference text
choose parcel
compose as you would a parcel label
add the note label and choose the parcel to reference.

Kind of a PITA to setup, but works well once in. Wait till the end to do it though- changing your parcels so that numbers, etc get swapped make it misbehave cause it loses track of which one to follow.

Dana,
Does 2008 have a provision for multiple parcel labels or some other way of separately controlling the visibility of the parcel name/number and the area?

Yes, 2008 lets you have multiple parcel labels.

Dana, your voice got much deeper :oP Thanks Chris.

I guess multiple labels a an ok solution. Label once with the lot number and then a second time for the area.

I was working on a solution for 06 this morning that works ok in the lab but I still need to test it in the wild. It uses a block in the label style to hide the lot area. The block is composed of a solid hatched area set on a specific layer. When that layer is visible the block contents hides the area. The block follows the label around as it's part of the label. The attached pic shows two viewports of the same parcels. On has the block contents layer visible and the other does not.
