In the Cross Section Views, how do I make C3D 2012 label the ditch slopes, ditch elevations, and centerline elevations automatically? I can use the Add Labels tools, but that takes too much time.
This can get quite involved. Here is a start:
Toolspace --> Settings --> General --> Code Set Styles
Pick out your code set style, then use the Help menu. As soon as the Help menu is no help, go to Google.

Did you or anyone else have a brief how to on this one. I'm looking to do the same thing but was hoping not to go with the code set method.
The two options here are using the annotation dialog and adding the annotation manually or using a code set style to label the sections automatically. As Bill indicated, the process for using Code Set Styles is quite in-depth - looking at some of the existing labels should give you an idea of how they work.

What does that mean?

Did you or anyone else have a brief "How To", on this topic. Does that help?
Along this same topic, I'm trying to find a way to label my daylight slopes in section views (globally), which I'm currently doing, using a code set style.
The change in label output I'd like to achieve is showing a V:H (1:4) slope labels on tie slopes & % Grade (5%) on driveways.
In both situations I'd be labeling the daylight link. (not sure if a mix/match xsec slope label scenario is possible in C3d?
The Daylight subassemblies could differ (if any more possible chance of success), for the ground tieslops & driveway tieslopes.
Otherwise if not possible through a global "code set style / styles" being applied, then is it possible to manually edit the driveway slope text to % in the section views?
Or possible to replace / override the V:H style (per section view) to apply a grade % style to driveways.
This is a very common thing for us so I'd like to automate in code set style or the likes if possible.
ANy help is appreciated,
Jay

It is possible using expressions. The concept can be found in this post: http://blog.civil3dreminders.com/2011/06/label-precision-blues.html
The basics,
1. Find the code in the subassembly you would like to label (point, link, or shape).
2. Edit the code set style your cross section is using.
3. Add that code to the code set style (if it is missing).
4. Assign the appropriate styles (object style, label style, render material, pay item, etc.) to that code.
5. Drink a beer because all your sections now have those styles applied to them.
How would I apply the expressions to show % grade for all slopes less than 16% slope?
These would be labeled using the style _% Grade.
Guessing I need an expression here indicating all {link grades} that rounds to the whole number, but what would it need to say to achieve this?
Then all slopes greater than 16% would show V:H slope.
These would be labeled using the style _Slope.
Or do I need to combine my 2 styles into 1 style to apply expressions because I'm labeleing the daylight link for which only one style can be applied in the code set style?
And lastly is there any handy documentation tha explains expressions better as far as building the text strings that make them happen?
I know what I want it to do, but to fill in the expression correctly isn't so straightforward.....
Format result as: has Grade/Slope & Percent listed, would I want Grade slope for both scenarios?
Attached is an example cross section depicting the output I'm trying to accomplish showing a driveway % slope rounded to nearest whole number & a V:H daylight slope. Also attached the expressions dialogue (which is where I'm stuck).
Thanks,
Jay
Brian Hailey wrote a great paper on Expression for Autodesk University. You might want to check that out.
I think I've found the AU 2009 class you're reffering to:
"Exploit Expressions to Enhance Your Labels"
I'll check it out.
Thanks!
Brian & c3dreminders, Thanks for all of your help on this. I got it to work using the expressions & 2 text components, one for % & 1 for rise:run labels. The AU class really helped a lot in achieving this!
One thing I noticed is if I go into the "Section Editor" & have my new Link label using the expressions set in my Code Set style for the daylight link, the slopes all display as ???
Not a big deal as I know I can switch to % or rise:run for viewing in Editor, just came to the conclusion the Editor doesn't play nice with Expressions apparently...
Thanks,
Jay
