Labeling Contours

Where do I set the contour labeling line to not show or be on layer defpoints. When I click on the label line and right click I can edit the contour label line properties and change the Display contour label line to false but not sure where the style is.
Thanks

As you've found you can do this after you label, and you can do more than
one by slecting one then using Select Similar. To keep them form being
displayed when created, go to Toolspace, Settings, right click Surface, Edit
Feature Settings, Contour Labeling defaults, set the Display Contour Label
Line to false.

If the contour labels are already created, you can turn off the label line by selecting them, opening the Properties box, and turning Display Contour Label Line to false.

If you want the default turned off:

From settings tab,
Rt-Click "Surface" and select,
Edit Feature Settings,
Expand "Contour Labeling Defaults",
Set "Display Contour Label Line" to False.

Assuming you have a company standard template that is where I would change it.

They will not take affect in labels that already exist. They should work in any future labels. With the one that already exists you can select it and go to the autocad properties dialogue, at the top you can edit the visibility

I did a blog post on this very topic early in my blogging career: http://civil3dplus.wordpress.com/2010/02/11/those-pesky-contour-label-lines/

And it doesn't look like anyone else has mentioned it, but AVOID using layer DEFPOINTS for ANYTHING.

You can now specify any layer as being non-plotting, so there's no reason to put things on DEFPOINTS.  Putting things on other layers helps others know what you meant, and is far more useful than simply putting things on a generic layer called DEFPOINTS.  Not to mention, DEFPOINTS is intended to be used internally by AutoCad, and you can end up with "AUDIT$BADLAYER" things when running Audit on drawings if you stick things on Defpoints.

Best rule-of-thumb is to NEVER use DEFPOINTS.  I know this is contrary to what some old-timers used to do, but it's a "best practice" these days.

And don't use layer 0 either, for the same reason. Plus turning off or freezing layer 0 can have, how shall I say this, some odd results.
