label bearing and distance of a pline segment labels total length

I have a 2011 civil 3d drawing with plines (not parcel). I can label the segments with bearing and distances.

When I open or label the pline in Civil 3d 2013 or 2014, the label distance is now the pline total length, not the segment length.

I have this with the line and parcel lables.  However If I convert the pline to a parcel line, then the labes works.

Question:  how can I label Pline segments correctly?

 Line Label on a closed Polyline shape here is working in 2014 sp1.

Check on the Layout Tab in Label style composer for the Style in use and be sure it's using the "General Segment Length" and not the "General Overall Length" property in the label style.
