Issues with grips in Civil 3D 2014

I used grips constantly for moving, copying, etc.  Normally it will allow me to use grips for a while and then all of the sudden it stops allowing me.  It will let me activate a grip but I can't do anything with it.  I try to hit escape to clear the grips but they don't clear.  The only way that the grips clear is if I start a command and then if I go back to trying the grips it does the same thing.

This doesn't happen often but when it does I'm usually in the middle of something and the only way I can fix it is to close the program and restart.  It gets annoying.

If anyone has any suggestion it would be greatly appreciated.

All I can add is confirmation that I have the same issue and solve it the same way.

I am having the same problem. Has anyone found out what is causing this?

I found out that it was the "Dynamic North Arrow" that was the problem. Deleted them and now it works fine.

Agreed, I had this problem a while back too, see this related thread.
