issue with adding a curve to an existing alignment

hi,

i have an existing alignment issued to me which has been created using all straight lines even where there should be curves. I am trying to insert curves in these areas. Using free curves (2 entities and a through point) I create a curve then somethings happen i can't work out -
1. The curve is created but the original straight linework stays. I would have thought the original linework would automatically delete. See attached pdf between points 60 and 62 the curve and straights can be seen.
2. Then all stations after the curve are changed to the question mark symbol. If i click on the alignment all the grips are still there for the full length of the alignment, indicating the alignment is still in one piece.
3. If I try to create another curve further along the alignment it won't allow it. Stating on the command line "Selected entity must be part of the main entity."

I'm using C3D 2009. Any help appreciated.

Insrting free curves maintains the physical PI of
the geometry

Thanks Joe,

Are you saying the issues are due to using free curves?

Isn't the geometry always there, it's just whether you want to display the extension lines or not with the style?

We chose to not show the PC to PI to PT, extension lines.

Not sure why you would have the other error or "?" problem. Maybe you could post the DWG.

Yes, but the  PI extension display should be
adressable in the style setting dialog box. off the top of my head I cant say
where.

Thanks Bruce,

I've exported one of the alignments to this drawing. I added the first curve to the segments and the previously stated issues occurred. A curve needs to be added further along (about 10 metres ) but i can't get the stations to continue once the first curve is created although all the grips show for the entire alignment? On the grid view the stations only go to the first curve.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben

Toolspace - Settings - Alignment - Alignment Styles - select alignment
style - right click - select Edit - Display Tab - toggle off Line
Extensions.

Hi Ben,

Not sure why it's not working for you. I just took your
drawing, deleted the curve you added (after I placed a temp line bewteen the
curve's endpoints for reference), used the Fillet through point. It added the
curve in the exact same position as yours and the stationing is redone
correctly.

What version & service pack are you using? I'm using 2009,
SP version 2

Sorry Ben, I just did the same thing here, erased old added the same curve back in:

"Free fillet curve through point" picking the same constraints and it worked fine. I even went down the alignment and added more curves.

Stationing looks good.

Hi Bruce and Jeff,

Thankyou both for taking a look at that drawing for me. I still could not get it to work using free curve fillet. Out of frustrationI starting test all the other curve options. The one that worked was Fixed Curved from entity end through point. I can't work out why. But i suppose the lesson I have learnt is if one option doesn't work try them all.

Thanks again

Ok, this reply might be a bit on the late side, but I had the same problem lately as well and this solution might be useful for others in the future.

But as for your problem no. 3, the solution for me was this: simply move the grid to the back (draworder) and the alignment to the front and you'll be able to attach more cuves again. Took me a while to figure this out though.

Wow. Just wow! Thank you, thoker. Solved my headaches. Just move the alignment to front before editing it.
