IP adress license

Is it possible to adress the license server via ip-adress? I have no possibilty to get a vpn. But our network team told me the ip adress is enough. But now i get an error: "License-Server returned a networking error." The error message comes so fast, that i think civil does not even call the server. Any help???

You need to provide more information.
Are you trying to just use Civil 3D from your machine at work, or remote into it from home?
Are you using Remote Desktop to get into the license server?
Are you using Dameware?
Are you using a DOS window or psTools?
What's address the license server mean? Apply an address to it or say "Hello" 🙂

ih have the ip-adress. thats it. and istead of specifying the name of the server i was just told to take the ip as license-server name

OK, to what end?
Attempting to remote into the license server will work just fine with the IP address.

I'm still not clear on what you are trying to do.
Please provide the how's, where's, and why's.
HOW are you attempting to get WHERE and WHY?
Example:
I am using dameware (this is the how) to access the license server (this is the where), so I can see how many licenses are available (this is the why).
I can't help you if I'm not sure what you need to do.

i installed civil. then i have to specify the license server. i put in my ip-adress. thats it. that is all i can do. i have no other tools than civil to get to the server. i am not establishing a virtual private network, or such.

So you installed Civil 3D as a networked version, not a standalone version, correct?
And you are putting in the license server's IP address, not your local machines, correct?

Sorry for all the questions, but I always create deployment images and do network installs via vbs, so running through the standard Install Products procedure isn't fresh in my mind pertaining to prompts and request for license servers.
However, if I remember correctly, all you should need is the IP address to the server the FLEXLM and license are installed on. It wouldn't hurt to try the actual name of the server too just for giggles.

Assuming you aren't the one that installed the FLEXLM, maybe you should call that person for support. They know their system and will be able to solve this issue quickly.

I'd suggest bypassing all this. C3D is a subscription only product so by
default it's on subscription. All subscription products with a network
license are entitled to a home installation serial #. Apply for that and do
a stand alone install with that S/N then authorize it over the web. Look on
the Subscription home page at the bottom of Subscription Administration. Or
if you don't have access. Have you Subscription account manager do it.

I'm not an expert at networks. But I can't see how having only the IP
address would allow you to pull a license of a server. That would mean that
if I got the IP address of anyone's license server I could do a network
install and pull a license. But as I said. I'm not sure. Just sound wrong.

"That would mean that if I got the IP address of anyone's license server I could do a network install and pull a license."
Not true. You have to be part of their domain.

Has to be a searchable address.
Most internal networks are addressed in unsearchable ranges for obvious reasons.

An Internet IP address lets you reach the gateway of the LAN (local area network) you are looking for, no further. The server in the LAN that issues the license does not have the IP address of the gateway. To achieve typing in the license server's IP address directly you have to set up a VPN so that your computer becomes part of the LAN that you need to connect to to get at a license. Your gateway has two IP addresses, one that is visible from the internet, and one that is visible from inside the LAN, normally something like 192.168.n.n by convention. Once you have a VPN, the computers in the LAN become visible to the remote computer. A gateway can be a computer or a router. At the moment you are typing in the gateway's Internet IP. The gateway is not set up as your AutoCAD license server, hence the error.
