Invalid Window Specification

My coworker got an error message while trying to move a match line:  "Invalid Window Specification".  Following this error, AutoCAD freezes up and he has to restart it, losing any unsaved changes.

I've searched the discussion group for this error message and it seems to come up in relation to many different commands and has been popping up since AutoCAD 2007 (we're using 2010).

I'm looking for some insight on this error - what causes it, how to fix it, why is it associated with many different commands?

One post mentioned issues with non-english versions.  We are in the US, so I don't think we would be using any other version.

I'm hoping that by starting a discussion specific to this error we might get information about it all in one place, rather bits and pieces spread out through different discussions.

Any help is appreciated.

I have seen this issue maybe a couple of times. I think (at least what I have seen) it was due to some corruption in the CUI file. Can you try restoring your CUI file or exporting your troubled one to a different machine and see if you can get the same error. That would tell you if thsi is the case.

1. To restore your CUI type CUI in command line to get into CUI editor

2. in Customize tab right-click on CIVIL and use restore c3d.cui or reset c3d.cui

Note: restotre will restore your incremental backup of CUI file while reset will reset your CUI to the out-of-box state.

Had the same invalid window specification issue today. I had set the osnapoverride variable to 1. Setting the variable back to 0 solved the invalid window specification issue. Osnaps are still re-setting their values on certain commands, but at least I can select a window.
