importing xml points

my point names have letters in them. i wrote an xml file to import into civil3d and when i do, it renumbers them. for instance out of inroads the point name is "IP 0204 - 123", and when i import that into civil3d it comes in as "465446". is there something i can do to keep it as originally exported? it renames them to something completely different. i could possibly even do without the "IP" part but keep the "0204 - 123". there are 12000 points and i cant rename them by hand. i have exported other xml's out of there and had it work fine but they didnt have letters in the name.

thanks!

I believe Civil 3D only likes whole numbers for point numbers:

Can you possible make the point number a description instead and have the software automatically number them from 1 - ??? for you?

MT,

Have you tried creating a Point File Format using Name instead of Point Number?

MT,

Where is the XML File coming from? Have you tried just importing the points with a CSV Point File Format that uses Name instead of Number?
