I have a borehole dataset (see attached) which I need to bring in to C3D 2011. I'd ideally like to have xyz points in a Point Group for each of the horizons and while I can obviously create several separate csv's for each I suspect it can be done without doing this.
Can anyone give me a steer in the right direction?
Thanks
Neil

Hi neily,
You can create multiple Point Groups with Raw description matching, for instance. Then once you import your CSV file program will filter these points and populate correct point groups. See image for reference:
I had to create surfaces from borehole data some years ago.
Don’t want to say how long ago, for fear of giving up my age.
Anyway I used LDT. The image demonstrates roughly what I did. i.e. create different surfaces.
Recently, I thought about writing an app to read borehole data and create it automatically.
But.... and a big one at that.... view this YouTube to see what ADesk has in the UK country kit.
I am sure, at some point if there is a demand or if we all stand on our soapboxes we will have it in the N. America kits....maybe!!!!
Thanks Jeff, I did not want to say that, did not know what Licensing issues I would encounter.
Yes I too am trying to get a real good dataset to try it out on.
cheers
Yeah, I thought about the license thing but couldn't recall there being any mention of not being able to use any. Then I recalled Dana's post basically saying "you really should try these" 🙂
Step 1, create user defined properties to match your borehole data
Step 2, create a point format that maps the user defined properties to the borehole data in your data file
Step 3, import the points
Step 4 create a point group for each surface needed and override the elevation with one of the user defined properties
Step 5, create your surfaces and add the appropriate point groups.
Should take about 10 minutes to create the three surfaces.
Brian, Thanks for the steps I'll give them a go

The User Defined Properties and point groups worked very well - until I created the surfaces when the inevitable C3D crash occurred

Save often.
Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to figure it all out? Going from not knowing how to do it to actually having it done, including the crash.
You got the Save often bit right...!!!
I probably took about 30 mins to go through the steps as I was a bit unsure of some things but I have now done it again and your ten minute estimate was about right......and no crash ...... yet
