KML file - not a surface, not a mesh, not a photo. The points and route with point numbers and attached info

I recently had to do this. Best way I found was converting the KML to SHP in Qgis then importing the SHP file. Other than that, I would love to hear other suggestions.
If you know how to use Map3d Data Connections and FDO then you can install the SL-King KML FDO provider.

I've only once had to import a .kmz file, not a very common filetype in my opinion. We don't use .kmz because it's Google only, and licenses to Google Earth are super expensive. My old office only had two guys with Google Earth, one was in marketing and the other was a landscape architect. It's not really an engineering tool.
The .kmz I have looks like it was originally drawn in microstation, maybe try importing using microstation and saving to dxf and opening with C3D.

Third party does not mean running outside of CAD. All of our products run inside the CAD engine (in this case Civil3D). You choose the tool from a ribbon panel integrated with the others. After selecting multiple files the geometry appears immediately inside your current drawing. We can't imagine a more direct way.

Not any more now that Google Earth Pro is free.
Oh, I wasn't aware. That must be pretty recent, like within the last year or so. I'm going to have to DL Google Earth Pro and take a looksee at ExpertGPS.
The Gizmo tool certainly does what it says on the tin - fully integrated into the ribbon and import kml/kmz/gpx etc etc with no problem
