try this:

http://tbn2.blogspot.com/2008/04/expge.html

expge ->  autocad entities to kml

readkml -> kml to autocad entities

or this:

http://tbn2.blogspot.com/2011/02/programas-tbn2.html

expge2 ->  autocad entities to kml

readkml2 -> kml to autocad entities

(more faster)

To export AutoCAD entities to Google Earth KML files:

http://tbn2net.appspot.com/showprog?progid=READKML2

To import elevaions from Google Maps to AutoCAD:

KML file - not a surface, not a mesh, not a photo. The points and route with point numbers and attached info

. How do you import a kml file..?

Message 6 of 20

If you were to consider third party software, take a look at Gizmo3D which will import Google Earth KMZ/KML Files as well as numerous other formats.

Already have third party software in ExpertGPS. But was looking to have a direct import.
Supposedly we move to 2015 next month, that is supposed to do the import in Map.

Not sure that it does but willing to be proved wrong.

I recently had to do this. Best way I found was converting the KML to SHP in Qgis then importing the SHP file. Other than that, I would love to hear other suggestions.

If you know how to use Map3d Data Connections and FDO then you can install the SL-King KML FDO provider

You can certainly export to KML in 2015 but a direct import is omitted

Thanks Neilyj,
Since you are rated "Advisor" please do not take this personally - it is directed at the "Borg".....
And just why would AutoCad map 'omit' (?) the ability to import something that major?
In probably the most widely used drafting system...
Freely passed around in geocaching, sailing, etc. a kmz or kml is capable of conveying data clearly to the general public.
And to be used by the general public.
Is this some lawsuit thing ?, or are they once again trying to piss off annoy land surveyors?
I can think of few things that help a non-surveyor picture a property better than a kml boundary outline viewed in Google Earth.
And just received from another survey company a kml of points and route that I have to convert to get into Civil 3D
This is insane in 2015.

I've no idea why there is no direct import as I'm not aware that kml/kmz is a proprietary format.

Unless there is something in the upcoming 2016 release it is third party solutions only

I've only once had to import a .kmz file, not a very common filetype in my opinion. We don't use .kmz because it's Google only, and licenses to Google Earth are super expensive. My old office only had two guys with Google Earth, one was in marketing and the other was a landscape architect. It's not really an engineering tool.

The .kmz I have looks like it was originally drawn in microstation, maybe try importing using microstation and saving to dxf and opening with C3D.

Third party does not mean running outside of CAD.  All of our products run inside the CAD engine (in this case Civil3D).  You choose the tool from a ribbon panel integrated with the others.  After selecting multiple files the geometry appears immediately inside your current drawing.  We can't imagine a more direct way.

Not any more now that Google Earth Pro is free.

Oh, I wasn't aware. That must be pretty recent, like within the last year or so. I'm going to have to DL Google Earth Pro and take a looksee at ExpertGPS.

The Gizmo tool certainly does what it says on the tin - fully integrated into the ribbon and import kml/kmz/gpx etc etc with no problem

Probably within the last month or so it went free - not sure of the advantages yet though
