How to transform (move + rotate) a surface ?

I have a surface.

I have a lot of operations done (points adding, breakilines, borders, etc)

I want to move and or rotate and change datum.

I have seen old post.

Ok, I have to select the definition data, to transform it and finally rebuild my surface.

I select them and simply move it.

mmm. Something is wrong. Maybe a bug... I have 12 duplicate points (false) , I have missing points, I have a crossed two breaklines.

The data used is very simple, 15 breaklines, 50 points (so there is no reason to think on big data problems...)

I have nothing at edit branch.

Any idea ?

Can you post the drawing?

  1. export that surface to LandXML format
  2. import it in an empty DWG with source datum assigned
  3. attach the latter DWG in an empty DWG with destination datum assigned
  4. finally perform a 'draw query' to align the LandXML surface to the new datum.

The above one is pure theory, 'cause I have no Autocad at home to test it, but I bet it works (perhaps upon exploding the surface).

mmmm

I'm testing some other drawings and it seems to happen something wrong when you move surface + data....

In this example I have a points added using the point group and some proximity lines.

Any idea ?

In other case I have data from a drwaing (acad points & polilines), And I have the error showed at the secod picture.

fail_surface.jpg

As you can see I have the "top" triangles moved down......

Here you are the original "fallo_surface" and "fallo_surface2" (after moving).

In this case you can see how (I see) you have a surface with no data, surface statistics simply does not exist....

Simply C3D goes crazy ......????

You need to move EITHER the data OR the surface. Do not move both.

Aha !  Dont move surface is the right way.

ok, but finally C3D 2013 has a bug .

Drawing objets , points in my case, are not  taken into account.,

Can anybody check this ?

1.- Create a new surface

2.- Add drawing objects, points.

3.- Add breaklines and a boundary,

4. Move the data (not the surface)

5.- Rebuild the surface

6. You can view how points are not taken into account ?

(use triangle + contour style)

Thanks.

If those are Civil 3D point objects then you should not be adding them to the surface with the Drawing Objects>Points command. This command is for AutoCAD point objects.

Do all of the points get added to the surfae? If so then just add the All_Points point group to the surface definition.

If only some of the pointss get built into the surface then make a new point group, populate it with your desired points and add that point group to the surface definition.

Just note the points also need to be moved and you should again make sure that the starting and ending elevation are identical during the move.

No, Of course there are autocad simple points.....

Thanks

Hey!

I've found that good practice does not involve using data in two different coordinate systems. Instead of moving the defining data objects (breaklines, points, contours etc.) try doing the following:

  1. Create a new surface
  2. <new surface>/definition/edits>paste surface: <orginal surface>
  3. When this is done, select the <new surface> and use move and rotate to get it into the desired location

When you do this all the changes you make to the original surface are propagated to the <new surface>. If the drawing get clogged from multiple surfaces try using datashortcuts:

  1. Create the data shortcut set up
  2. create new drawing
  3. reference the surfaces that need rotating and moving
    1. set their style so that they are not visible or turn the layer they are on to *off*
  4. Do what is in the first list and use a visinle style or layer.
