How to Import Pipes, LandXML?

What are some good ways to import a pipe network from one drawing or project to another? I have tried to use LandXML and had partial success. When I import the XML into a new drawing the pipes are in the right place, but the pipe and structure elevations seem to be randomly changed by several to thousands of feet.

When I try to simply w-block out the pipes and insert them into another drawing everything seems normal in the process, but no file is created. I have been told that if w-blocking does work all the surfaces, alignments, etc. come with the pipes which would be a pain too.

Thanks for any ideas

Data shortcut the pipe network into the other drawing. If you don't want the updates to the source file to reflect in the destination file, promote the data shortcut for the pipe network and then they will be in the drawing without linking to the original file.

Seems to work very well, thanks for the tip.

This will also work with alignments, profiles and surfaces (I don't have 2008 open, but there may be some more). Data shortcuts are a great way to share data among drawings. Message was edited by: ChristopherF
