How to change the default acad.lin to a custom .lin file

i'm using civil 3d 2014. What I want to do is change the default acad.lin to default to a custom .lin file. Example: when i type lintype, and then click on load, the default acad.lin loads. Instead of the acad.lin file loading, i want to have a custom .lin file apear. is there a way to do this without renaming my custom file to acad.lin

Why not add your custom linetypes to the acad.lin , then you'll never have to load a custom one? Better still, add all your linetype to the dwt file

I could do that but when going from one version to the next the file could be overwritten. And sometimes I have to send my custom line file to other company's and there not going to want to over right their file with my file.

you can set up acad search paths to include a location for you custom stuff. I add mine to the the top of the list :\\servername\CompanyStandards
that way you keep your custom seperate from OOTB without overly customizing

I don't think you can. You either have to browse to your custom .lin file or copy the custom linetypes to the acad.lin file. If you just copy the linetypes and leave the original file intact. It's just a copy/paste to reinsert them with each program update or reinstall.

I keep all our linetype files on the server anyway. So we never lose them.

That would not be "default" then, would it?

You can also script the line type load, either through scripting or LISP.  Tends to be a little better than manual loading, as it avoids the invetibable "Oh, I thought we were using ___.LIN.  Its what I've always used before...".
