Grading Fatal Error: Corrupt Feature Line

Has anyone managed to corrupt a feature line or know what might cause a
feature line to not want to grade?

Simple grading scheme, building pad dropping 5% in 8 ft. every other house
grades perfectly. these pads (feature lines) have inherited their
elevations from a surface a few times as i iterate...

I've had it happen a LOT. Grading is still buggy. I still can't get
one particular site to balance the volumes no matter what I try -
crashes every time. It's 6 simple building pads graded at a 6:1 slope.
Try to balance, crash.

I hate grading...

Now working in 2008 I had a feature line that somehow became corrupted and resulted in a fatal error every time I tried to grade to a surface. I finally deleted the feature line, redrew it, and the grading then ran fine. I think I somehow corrupted it by editing some elevations with the elevation editor.
