I do a lot of modeling with this software and liked the gouraud shading. Is this possible in CIV3D? I dont have this option when I type shademode. Am I missing something?

Hi
currently AutoCAD (and so also Civil3D) uses MentalRay as default rendering system, that's what "rendering" concerns.
Visual-Styles itself does not define "rendering" just "displaying", they came up based on OpenGL and DirectX. While OpenGL was not supported since 2008 or 2009 I think, AutoCAD uses now DirectX. And DirectX workes based on Shaders.
So if you don't have a very old version of Civil I would think, not, it's not possible within AutoCAD to use Gouraud-Rendering.
What is the goal for you to see Gouraud-Rendering as prefered? I think it's possible to define materials that look easy/soft and reduce quality settings to it's minimum, don't define lights (except one, if you need), use only a simple or none environment.

Thanks for that detailed response. I guess more information would help huh? I am running CIV3D 2012. I use gouraud when Im looking at my project before I render it. I dont want any of my wireframe lines showing when viewing it/ orbiting around. You dont need those dang lines all the time and every single option in shademode has them. If i do the shaded option my materials disappear. Gouraud was the best shademode option for viewing a model that will be rendered.
Hi,

Then VisualStyles is the correct adress to work on ==> try to duplicate one that comes nearest to what you like and play with it's properties (yes there are some ... ). 😉

What you're wanting to get rid of is ISOLINES. All you need to do is create (or modify...) a visual style that does not display them. In this video I created a copy of the Realistic visual style, turned off ISOLINES and saved it with a new name - I can then switch to that visual style as needed.
ugggggghhhhhhhh THANK YOU SO MUCH! Thats so much better. Video helped with understanding it too.
Glad I could help 🙂
