I would recommend you work through the tutorials found in the Help menu.
There is one entitled "Using Layout Profiles." The first line of the
tutorial reads, "These exercises show you how to create and edit layout
profiles, which are often called design profiles or finished grade
profiles."
I would also recommend viewing the recorded Civil 3D Webcasts found at:

Unfortunately, it would very difficult to teach FG profiles in this forum.

I have started my first project using C3D. I was able to set up an existing
profile for an alignment, but have not figured out how to bring in the FG
profile. I have a corridor set up, but I think it is using the existing
surface for its elevations. In LDT you could create a FG profile and then
add PVI's, but I don't know how to do this in C3D.
