File version

Is there a way to detect in what CAD version a file is saved?

That must be a way without opening each file and reading the command line!

Personally I think it should be shown in file properties but it does not!

(Opening the file in Notepad and reading the first row is a solution but it must be easier than that!!!)

You've already found the only way I know how to do it.

There was a nifty add-on called 'DwgIcon' that showed what version the drawing was while viewing in Windows Explorer.
Unfortunately it only works up to R2007 and the author's website is not online anymore.
I have seen other people in other forums asking for similar feature.
Maybe someone has solved and updated the old add-on.
Maybe AutoDesk should consider this type of feature as standard.

You can use BatchInEditor or BatchInDatabase tools to identify the last saved drawing version, Either add the files to the drawing list or drag and drop to drawing list which instantly show all the added drawing version.

The tools are very powerfull for batch operations and available to donwload from Autodesk exchange Apps and it is FREE.
