Does anyone know of a way to turn off the interactive graphics (what I suspect is slowing the process) that are displayed when importing a fieldbook? It is unacceptably slow.

We are aware of the performance issue when importing a field book.
As you note, the Survey User Settings > Interactive Graphics can be turned off to help performance.
