Few Simple Questions??

we're converting from Field survey to CD3 and am finding the learing curve a little heavy at time. So I have a couple question I hope can be easily answered

1: in Field survey they have a command that will draw a curve between 2 points at a specific radius..you enter your two end points and give it a radius and it draws the curve....is there a simiilar command in CD3/LD

2: Just got a large layer list from a client. He send us a DWT and a XLS file.....the DWT file opens but has all his setting for the drawing inplace and being new to CD3....is there a easy way to just import just the Layer file into a new drawing and go from there?

Thanks for any help!!!
Chris

Hey Chris;

The answer to the 2nd question is fairly
easy to handle - do a Save As from their DWT into a DWG. You can then use Design
Center to transfer layers from that fresh DWG.

Now for the 1st question:

If you've got Civil 3D 2006, you should have
received LDT2006; or if you've acquired the 2005 version, Land should have
accompanied it. I'm not familiar with that particular command you're looking
for, but there are a number of Curve commands on the LDT Menu Palette. Once you
get LDT Open look for the Lines/Curves pulldown (see below):

Do those look familiar?

I have played with the curve pulldowns as you showed, but I still have not been able to get it to draw the right kind of curve..for example....I draw a lot survey where the front of the lot is on a 150' radius curve....I draw the other 3 sides of the rectangular lot. What command will give the ability to draw a curve from one lot corner to the other lot corner with 150' radius...in field survey it askes you for the PC, radius, and the chord....

Thanks....I got the layer transfer to work...

Hey Chris;

Field Survey has not been integrated into Civil 3D as of the current
version, so to get the functionality you're looking for you'll still need to
use that for the interim. Or Land, as I was able to get the Lines/Curves
"From End of Object" to work as you had explained the parameters you were
looking for. I used an existing arc, and indicated which end I wanted to
start from; gave it the radius and delta; and the arc was drawn. This was in
my version, LDT3.

It was pointed out recently that FS 2006 bears a strong resemblance to Civil
3D, so that may be an indicator of things to come. When is a different
story. Being that its the weekend, you may get a better answer on Monday.

Hi Chris,

The AutoCAD ARC command allows you to do this.

The Help files till you how, but essentially it is start the command - pick
the first point, type E to select the end and then R to enter the radius.

Just use the fillet command. Fillet -> Radius = 150
