Extract and export surface contours and labels

I want to extract contours with elevation labels from a C3D 2011 surface for use in another 2011 drawing without the surface, as polylines and labels.  Is there a way to do this?

You can explode a surface twice to get poly lines at elevations.

I don't know what happens to the labels.

Probably need to re label in LDD.

You can do the same with the labels explode the labels and they become text

Just to add my 2 pennies. I think you can go about it without ruining your surface by explode. If you select your surface and go Extract Objects you will be able to get contours as polylines. See image:

Labels you would need to explode. Good luck.

There is something exhilarating about using the explode command.  I sometimes even make a little explosion sound as I press enter (usually on stressful days lol) Smiley Wink

It would be fun if you could add some type of script to a button that would trigger a windows sound of an explosion Smiley Wink

Can you tell it is Friday?  Back at office on old computer which works for forum.

Do a SAVEAS to create a copy of your file before expoding or save just before exploding & WBLOCK out contours then quit drawing without saving to preserve model.

Does that Explorer 9 glitch that causes blank posts also cause reply to wrong post in this forum?  I've seen this forum do lots of weird things when I try to reply.  Will have to check reaction old to new computer.  We upgrade to get worse performance why?

Refine your explode command and add this

defun Bang (str)
  (vl-load-com)
  (setq sapi (vlax-create-object "Sapi.SpVoice"))
  (vlax-invoke sapi "Speak" str 0)
  (vlax-release-object sapi)
)

(Bang  "BANG ")

I tried extracting the contours, but it does not accomplish what I need. I use Civil 3D 2013 and I sent my drawing (with surface contours) to someone using Carlson 2013. My contours were not visible. When I extracted them and sent it they could not open the drawing at all. I had to completely explode the surface and then I lost my labels. Even though the resultant polylines maintained their elevation, I was unable to label the polys with elevations.

Did you try using the Export To AutoCAD commands? This may be the best way to send the surface.

I think maybe exporting the surface to an XML file might be the way to go. I tested it with Microstation, and it was successful.

I did not know I could do that. I am going to test it. Thanks!
