1. Are you using the mapexport command or the export Civil3D objects to SDF?
2. You may need to edit the mapexport.ini file to set the Append to true as
shown here.
[FDO_SDF]
File=True
Rootname=False
EntTypes=All
FeatureClass=Single
CreateClassBy=None
SupportsAppend=TRUE
Now if you answered no.1 as mapexport command you are good to go once you
edit the ini file. If you are exporting C3D objects you can not append the
file on export. What you can do after you export is load the files (original
you want to append and the exported one) using the FDO data connect, then
use the bulk copy tool to append the files into one file.
The mapexport.ini is located here in Vista "C:\Users\All Users\Autodesk\C3D
2010" in XP it should be in the Document & settings\All Users\
............... In Win 7 you're on your own until sometime next month when I
get it.

i need some help regarding exporting/merging data. what i am trying to do is
basically merge all the surveys that my company has perform so it would be
easilly accessible. Autocad SDF file seems a suitable database format for my
company as it allows exporting also properties of the feature exported such
as LAYER. When i was reading through the manual of Civil 3D i came across
some features of Autocad MAP 3D which allows you to export features to an
existing SDF file and instead of replacing/overwriting it will append the
data. i tried to do this on Civil 3D but it does not give an option to
append the data but only to replace it.
Anybody got an idea why is that?? Supposly Autocad civil 3D includes also
the features/capabilities of Autocad MAP 3D.
If know an alternative way of merging data and maintaining a database that
automatically extracts objects properties such as layers let me know
thanks
ps. the attached image shows a screenshot from the manual of Map 3D which
shows how to append SDF
