Not a big deal but one that bugging me a little. Is there a fix or workaround for the ltgen issue with existing ground sections not displaying with the LT gen turned on. (i typically use dashedx2 linetype (straight from the acad.lin file)
any hints or suggesstions.
im using civil 3d 2010, latest service packs and hotfixes, tuns (tonnes) of ram.

Hi Jason,
That was a wish list for a while. Unfortunately, there is no way to deal with this as the “section” lines are Civil objects (same as profiles, survey figures, etc.) do not behave as polyline and there is no option similar as linetype generation. people were using different workarounds to get this display by tracing section lines as polylines and setting the generation. Then they would go into viewport and turn off teh visibility of layers where section lines are. This way the section will be visible in model space but not through the viewport. Off course, this would not be dynamic, but....
Hope this answers your question.
thats what ive been doing, just alot of work when you have 200 cross section sheets and 3 sections per page.
perhaps if i click my heels 4 times instead of three, the wish list gets done !
thanks for the rapid response.

Are you using data shortcuts? I used to have this linetype generation issue with profiles where the existing ground profile and finish grade profile were data shortcut. What I found that works well for me is to data shortcut the existing ground surface into my production drawing, and then data shortcut my alignment and finish grade profile into the drawing. I then extract a "new" existing ground surface from the alignment and then place the profile view/profiles. Using this workflow, I get a perfect dashed linetype generation for existing ground in my production drawing profiles.
I don't know if it works the same way for cross sections because I often use a thin solid line for existing ground in my cross sections....but it may be worth a try.

interesting way of doing things, but you mentioned profiles towards the end of your phrase, this is for cross sections only !
i assume you meant cross sections ? and if so, i will try that later on this week when i have a little more time.
thanks for the response.
