Excel Table Named Range?

All,

I am sure I am missing some small detail. I am trying to insert an excel table using a datalink. If I insert the entire sheet, it includes too many cells. If I set a print area and choose that area, it will not insert the table. The first time it acts like it is going to work, but then never lets me place the table. The second attempt it just will not let me select that data link. If I actually name a group of cells, I get the same behavior as the print area. Does anyone else have issues with importing excel tables? Am I missing a step?

My work flow is

Create an excel sheet & format the table.

Select desired sells, set print area.

Save & Close excel

go to annotate tab in civil 3d

select table icon

choose from data link

launch data link manager

create data link and choose range of cells as print area.

Press OK

it never let me choose insert point.

I have also tried to simply make the datalink and then run the table command with the same results.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dave

That's odd.  I can't even get it to let me place it if I do the entire sheet.

I'm using C3D 2012.

It shows up fine in the preview (including being just the correct cells) regardless of choosing Entire Sheet, Link to Named Range or just Link to Range.

Don,

I do not typically get a preview. I am using 2013, but i have never tried inserting a table before 2013.

Thanks,
Dave

Here's how we link Excel using datalink here.

1. In Excel select the cells of data to be linked to AutoCad. Right click and select “Copy”.

2. In AutoCAD / C3d navigate to Home Tab on Ribbon>Paste>Paste Special.

3. Select Paste Link>AutoCAD Entities>OK.

Then set up the various cell table styles as desired for Data, Header, Title.

To Modify Datalink settings go to Select Insert Tab on Ribbon>Linking & Extraction>Data Link.

Jay,

That worked out great and was much quciker than anything I have done in the past. The only issue I noticed was the cells that were formated to have verticle text came in funky.

Thanks,
Dave
