Edit Parcel Curves

After creating parcels from existing linework, is it possible to edit curves in parcels, namely to extend/shorten them? I notice I can grab the ends of the curves and drag them to a new position, but when I do that, I can't find any way to maintain the radius of the curve. The curve simply "stretches".

The only way I've found so far is to draw arcs over the segments I want to extend, then extend the new arcs as desired. Then I use the Parcel tools to delete the existing curve segments from my parcels. Then I add the new arcs to my parcel using "Create parcels from objects". This has a tendency to screw up various labels all around the parcel, so I then have to go around and fix various labels.

It works, but it's a pretty involved procedure compared to grabbing and stretching existing linework, which seems to work well for straight segments but not curved segments.

You can change the radius in the parcel editing tool, no need to remove and replace it. However, changing the value of the radius will not change the tangent points, they will remain in their current locations. In the end I draw over the segments, fillet at the new radius, grip edit/relocate the curve ends, and than change the radius thru the parcel editor. Make sure to double check the radius and tangent points to ensure each edit sticks.

I have been using 3 construction lines to form the start, mid & end of my
curve & dragging the parcel as required.

I have also tried to draw new parcel segments to form the new curve & use
delete parcel segment with some wacky results to the labels.

It would also be nice to get radius control of feature line curves.

Thanks Andy. Big tip.

Do you know how to change a feature line radius???

How about adding a tangent between to curves?

I don't think there is a way to edit the radius of a feature line. If I can't get the results I need by grip editing the tangent points I'll just redraw it. Though at a minimum it would be nice to be able to get a grip point at the midpoint of the curve.

Like limburger, but at least it is more stable nowadays.

Parcel curve editing more stable? **HAHA** I laugh at your reality and
interject my own.

I guess working about 25% of the time IS more stable than workign 5% of the
time ... (hope you can feel the sarcasm)

didn't you apply the STABILITYFACTOR = 255? 🙂

I had a huge problem with editing curves in r.o.w. with one project where i
ambitiously tried to create additional drainage, access, and utility
easements as parcels. everytime the radius of the r.o.w. was revised i
decided (the hard way) to just recreate parcels based on linework and
deleting the parcel segments rather than revise them. i create the revised
parcel segments first to minimize what you refered to with your parcel
labels getting all jacked up. also keep an eye on the parcel layer. when
editing it has a tendency to "jump" to the current layer rather than the
default layer assigned.

Had the exact same thing come up again, and this worked great. I was confused for a moment, until I figured out how it worked with "Display Subentity". It's a very twisted way to work, a great example of user-unfriendly design, but simple to do once you become aware of it. Not as simple as if Parcel segments had Extension grips like Profiles do, or if the center of curves could be grip-edited, or if the radius of Parcel curve segments could be changed in the Properties window, but It's definitely a lot better than dealing with all the label issues caused by deleting and redrawing segments of parcels. Thanks!

This might have already been said but many Feature Line tools can also be used to edit parcels, such as "Edit Curve" where you can input the desired radius.  Here is a link to the commands that can be used:  http://docs.autodesk.com/CIV3D/2013/ENU/index.html?url=filesCUG/GUID-8D8CBFB5-A6B7-4662-8621-9E9ACC4...

Just for the future, I found a way to add new curves to an existing parcel from its' straight segments using the edit geometry functions of fillet for a feature line. This is easier than creating a new parcel or arc to later join to the parcel you are editing, and it is certainly easier than just creating the whole parcel again, depending on where you are in your job task. I am surprised AutoCAD did not consider this curve creation in this parcel editing function. Adding a curve to a straight segment is something that will come up often especially with Final Plats. Hope this helps.
