dynamic blocks as survey points

I just started using C3D 2010 and I'm trying to use my own dynamic blocks as point styles in survey points. The problem is when I import a survey field book file and click on a block, I don't see the grips from the original block instead I see the same grips for all blocks (see attached pic). On the left is the original block and on the right is the same block in a survey point.

How can make C3D use the blocks with their own grips? By the way, this process works fine on my Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2008.

Dynamic Blocks do not work in Civil 3D Point Styles.

You can't get dunamic block grips when they're used in point styles. You
have 2 options as I see it.

1. use the blocks in the point style and forget about the dynamic
properties
2. explode the points twice; this gives you the actual dynamic block
back...but you lose the points, so you need to reimport them if you need the
points.

Humor me, this is an honest question:

What's the use case for dynamic blocks in a Point Style?

I've got some thoughts, but I'm curious what the real world uses are.
Thanks,

That sucks, doesn't it? I'll settle for the first option. Thanks anyways, guys.

Most of the uses I have found for dynamic blocks as point symbols in LDD were related to drawing cleanup. The ability to move text independently of a symbol, stretch a guy anchor to a utility pole, change a single pole sign symbol to a double pole symbol were pretty useful.

Because of the dynamic limitation in C3D, we changed all of our symbols so that we didn’t have to mess with exploding and reinserting points just to get the dynamic functionality. Even without the text beside the symbols it is still difficult to show some areas due to overlaps with the symbology itself.

JW, since the blocks are representative and are usually bigger than the real thing, you find that sometimes you need to stretch it to make it smaller or narrower (as with the valve block). I know that can be accomplished by changing the block scale, but it's easier if it's built-in as a grip. Nothing major, but I was already using this in 2008 and it would have been nice to keep it.

That's a valid case, I just was unsure of how it was being used in LDT 09.

Thanks.

On a related note, we are looking for anyone interested in exchanging
civil oriented dynamic blocks for add-on software. If anyone is
interested, email me at dotson [at] dotsoft [dot] com.

Those use cases are still valid in 2015, but the restriction still exists. It seems like such a no-brainer

Doesn't the description key have scale controls?
