Dumb Civil3D Report Question ...

Ok I guess I have been spending WAY too much doing CAD workstation stuff and trying to learn Revit because I seem to have forgotten everything about Civil 3D! I hate to look dumb but I have what is probably a pretty simple issues. I need to generate a report along a runway corridor that an HMAC overlay is performed on.

What I need is a center, left edge and right edge at ever 50' down the alignment for both the proposed and existing surfaces. But I seem to have let that bit of information escape from my brain.

The slope stake report is almost what I need. But it won't report the existing ground elevations at the same points. If only ...

Any help would be appreciated. Any laughing and pointing would probably be deserved.

Are you sure you did it with Civil 3D Reports before? What version of Civil 3D are you using? I might be able to fill in the "If only ..." part.

Does the "Profile: Incremental Station Elevation Difference report" handle
it?

Hmm. Maybe it isn't Civil 3D that I am thinking of. Maybe it was when I was playing with Microstation. Somehow I feel a bit better now.

So if this tool isn't in the list of baked in reports does anyone have an idea of what the best way to get this information out of the drawing would be?

As usual, any help would be much appreciated.

The manual way would be to create a dummy corridor that samples the existing ground and then run the report for both corridors and then combine the reports in Excel to get one report. If you let me in on what version of Civil 3D you are using I might make a blog post on how to change the report to have the slope stake report provide the info you want directly, since this report may come in handy if I ever do another airfield project.

The SincPac might have something that would work also, but I'm not sure.

It's pretty easy to do in Civil 3D if you have the right third-party help...

I am looking at the profile reporting tools under the General/Reports menu.
I haven't used them but I am thinking you could create offset alignments for
the edgoe of travel way, sample the terrains and run one of the incremental
profile reports if one is suitable.

Am I not understanding the task?

That is a pretty interesting set of tools. Will it work in Civil 3D? If so I may have to give this a whirl.

Thanks for the link!

******Edit*******

I meant to say "will it work in Civil 3D 2010" b/c obviously a set of C3D will work in C3D. Well hopefully. But then I saw that there is a newer, for pay version of 2008, 2009 and 2010. I have to say, the video have me intrigued.

After digging into the report toolbox I see now they are not customizable
without some prgramming skills which is probably why they aren't up to your
task. Quite surprising actually.

Christopher:

I am using Civil 3D 2010 of course! Being a subscription customer I am always up to date with the latest Autodesk software!

Seriously though I am using C3D 2010 with Update 2 and the SAP installed. I'd love to see your procedure on this! I am also planning to look into the SincPac thing (which I keep calling "SinPac" b/c I think that sounds alot more interesting). Reporting has always been one of my three Achilles' heels if C3D.

What can I say? I do the same stuff over and over and so there are some things I just forget b/c I don't use them. >.<
