drawing too big

Does anyone have any tricks for opening a drawing that is too big for the computer to handle?

First try to _XREF it, then bind it, purge it deeply, save as DWG.

If the Saveas Options were set to save Layer and Spatial Indices. You can use partial open to open some of the drawing, Wblock that out. Then open other portions you need.

You can use AutoCAD Map to query a layer or two at a time and save each of the resultant drawings separately.

Never tried it, just off the top of my head—could you use the core console to open it with no graphic display? I presume that uses less memory.
Then you could purge it & possibly do other things that are commandline based only to try reduce the size of it.
