Description Key Issues

Howdy all,

I'm having a little trouble with my description keys. I have a code set to "12" and a format set to "BENCH MARK $+". If I understand things correctly, a point with the raw description "12" should be changed to a full description of "BENCH MARK" and if it has a raw description of "12 test" should come in with the full description of "BENCH MARK test". The problem I'm seeing is this is not happening. If I have a raw description of "12", I end up with "BENCH MARK 12" and if I have a raw description of "12 test" I end up with "BENCH MARK est".

I've attached an image showing my situation. The point labels show the point number, elevation, full description, and raw description in parenthasis.

Any idea on what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for any help,

Brian

Try getting rid of the $+ - I've got a sneaking suspicion that's the
problem.

Speaking of $+, what's the + supposed to pull in? If you want it to
pull in the number, that should be $0 - so it'd be Bench Mark $0

Perhaps it would be helpful to know what the desired end result is
supposed to be.

I recall seeing something about this in another post a few weeks ago and there was a problem using the $+. The solution was to use $1 $2 $3 $4 etc. to achieve the same result as $+.

Hi Jason,

I tried to explain the desired result. Code 12 is for benchmarks so, when the guys in the field shoot a benchmark, they use a description of "12". If there is more information they want to include with it, they will put it after the 12, in my example, "12 test". As far as the $+, I copied this from the help file:

$+
Reference all the parameters in the raw description after the leading element.

In other words, if I have a raw description of "12" I want to end up with a full description of "BENCH MARK" and if I have a raw description of "12 test" I want a full description of "BENCH MARK test".

As you can see in the image, I'm not getting that.
