Creating Longsections within civil 3D

Hello All,
Bit of a newbie question here im sure
Im trying to produce some longsections from a DWG Format Drawing i downloaded from a mapping website (promap)
at the moment im going through the process of using a 3d polyline, snapping it to every contour i need, then viewing it from the side and drawing a longsection table around it (Pretty amatuer im sure)
How is it possible to produce a longsection automatically using Civil 3D/AutoCAD
(The contour map is made up of 3D Poly lines)

Thanks in Advance

Briefly:

  1. Create a TIN surface
  2. Add the 3D polylines to the TIN surface
  3. Draw an alignment
  4. Create a surface profile along the alignment

You will have to look into the steps in more detail.  Profile View styles give you the option of a vertical exageration on your profile (longsection).
