Creating a Surface from Contour Lines

I have drawing givin to us for a senior design project. I'm trying to creat a surface to so that I can analyse cut/fill. Not sure if what i'm doing is right or wrong, I've never used civil 3d. But i'm getting breakline errors whenever i'm tyring to creat the surface from the contour lines.

any suggestings would be nice. not sure if what i'm doing is right or wrong or if I even need this for cut/fill analysis.

something certainly not correct here - can you check the locations of the errors to see if there are any odd loops etc. Could also try posting the dwg (has it been done on an EDU version?)

Breakline errors when adding contours is normal. Set the surface to display...i.e. turn on layer 0. You will see that the surface contours match exactly the pline contours.
