Creating a Surface as the Difference between 2 Surfaces

Hi!

I need to create a surface that is the elevation difference between 2 surfaces, i.e. at a particular x,y location if the elevation of surface A is 47' amd the elevation of surface B is 42', the new surface will be 5' at that location.

Is this possible?  And if so, please explain how?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Go to the prospector and right-click surfaces, create a new surface. Under the "type" in the upper left hand corner of the pop-up should be an option to create a "TIN volume surface." The window will then prompt you to enter a base and comparison surface.

YES! then i assume this will be another surface with a new name that I could run a surface area 2d table on?

Yes, this would be a completely new surface. The spot elevations of this surface would give you the vertical cut/fill at any given location.

and you can do a surface analysis showing colour coded cut and fill as well as showing cut spot levels in red and fill in green.

Won't be back in front of civil til Monday so will post then unless some one else chimes in before.

In the meantime try goggling "cut and fill exhibits". In 2014 you can also have a transparency for the cut fill drawing to show the detail below. This may be possible in earlier versions but it was broken in 2013.
