Created PVC Pressure Pipe but No Compass

So I created a pvc pressure pipe to use in addition to the ductile iron pipe that comes with the software.  Problem is, when I draw my pipes, the compass doesnt disply the different bends at which I can use.  If I switch to the ductile iron pipe that came with the software, all my bends show up that I can draw at.  Why dont they show up on the compass for my pipe I made?

Did you add the fittings too? I am curious about the process. I would like to also add PVC pipe. And fittings but the information seems to be sparse on how to add thing to the library.

Maybe someone from Autodesk can help us out here?

Well........I used the content catalog editor and did a saveas of the imperial mechanical fittings so I don't potentially mess up the original file.  I then created some high deflection couplings in the elbows group along with  some 12" pvc pipe.  I then set that catalog as the current catalog in Civil 3D and created my parts list from the items in that catalog.  I loaded my pvc pipe, the ductile iron pipe, my high deflection couplings and some other elbows as well.  Thats when I noticed that the compass shows no bend values when I draw pvc pipe but if I switch over to ductile iron pipe it works fine.  I can handle that for this project for now now, I'll just edit the ductile pipe to be pvc.  The next issue I have is when I draw my ductil pipe, certain bends show up as red circles with a yellow exclamation point and then whereever I snapped that particular endpoint to be, the pipe will snap to a different random point and then the next point I nap to wrk but then the point after that doesnt work, and, I need to figure out the deflection values in the bends as obviously, not everything is built to the exact bend angle.

I seriously think that pressure pipes should have been set aside and not included in this release.  It is so incomplete that it's not worth the time to figure it out, and the software seems like it was not laid out with the design process in mind.  Feels like it was built by software engineers, not civil engineers.  It's just one issue after another trying to figure things out.

I agree. I had a quick look at pressure pipes and realized it is not ready for production use. I particularly don't like the way pipes are handled in profile. If you apply the option to follow the ground it adds numerous vertices to the pipe. Then if you want to straighten the profile in certain areas you have to manually align all those vertices. There is no way to remove them from the pipe, nor is there a tool to straighten the profile.

Also, once the pipe has been placed, the deflection contraints no longer work.

Big disappointment here.

Ouch, that sucks.  Hopefully Autodesk reads through these forums once in awhile and realizes what a snafu this was and they make some major upgrades though either a Service Pack release or when 2014 comes out.

That is where I am at now. Is it really worth the trouble of trying something new that is only half baked??? I think that I may stick to what I know works for now rather than adding more problems than what it is worth. Doubtful that they will fix anything in this release with a better pipe library and a user friendly way to edit it. Gar Garland R.
