Create Grading Object Lock up

Has any one else had the problem of when they try to create a grading object, the program just locks up, and you have to kill the process?? We have found a work around of, going into options and under 3D performance, checking and un-checking the transparency settings, and then hitting apply and it will work fine for a while, but if we don't do and grading objects for an hour or so it will come back. It seems that as long as we can get the options dialog to allow us to hit apply it will allow us to grade. This is a major problem because you don't know if it will work or not till you try to do it.

Any ideas why or what is causing this problem??

if you had searched the discussion group you would see that grading is notoriously finicky.

a few tips tho:
1- make sure you have no zero lenth segments in the feature line you are grading from.
2-transition grading just works badly - dont use it.
3-save often.
4-make sure you have the most up to date service pack on whatever version you have.

I've seen this as well, and it's obviously a glitch.
The point to the original posters post was going into the options dialog, making a modification here or there (enough to be able to hit apply) makes the grading object work perfectly.

So Autodesk, what's the connection between grading functionality and the Autodesk Registry File (.arg)?

Try it, next time you want to grade from a featureline to an existing surface and the program locks up, kill the process, open it back up, and open the same file with the same featureline.
Then go into your options dialog, make some changes so you can hit apply, then hit ok.
Now you'll be able to grade your featureline with no problems. (for awhile)
Make sence? NO, but grading functionality has always been flakey and unreliable.

Yep, and It's only good for a short time before you have to redo it.
