Create elevation surface color scheme

Can I create a new color scheme for displaying elevation surface analysis? If so, how? I need a scheme I can apply to a volume surface with 34, 0.10 foot intervals but I need to make it with contrasting colors on adjacent elevation ranges.

Look for MapRamps.xml file in your \Program File\Autodesk Civil 3D 200X\ directory

You can edit the file with any text editor. Copy and modify any of the existing schemes. Unfortunately you are limited to the AutoCAD standard colors, and the intervals are determined automatically when you run your analysis.

You can edit the color scheme and interval ranges on a surface-by-surface basis by going to the Analysis Tab of the Surface properties dialogue for your surface. Here you can also define custom RGB colors for the ranges.

Here's a helpful place to see the colors by number:

MapRamps.xml does not appear to exist for Civil 3D 2008. Does anyone know where to edit or add a scheme in '08?

I haven't messed with it yet, so I don't know for sure, but I would try the MapThematicRamps.arm under the above mentioned folder location.

Again I haven't done anything with this to test it out, but the contents shown in notepad looks like it should work.

Anyone else have any luck with this? While were at it, has anyone found a way to "hack" the Group By methods so it drops in say even 2 foot bands instead of decimals? What about slope analysis based on different agency requirements? I know we can manually modify the ranges but since we are able to standardize everything else, why not the ranges and schemes?

The extension has changed, but even if you modify it, I don't believe that C3D is using this file anymore. Due to the internationalization, they're calling a DLL that support languages better. I don't believe these can be customized in 2008.
