create data shortcuts with C3D API?

I need the ability to create data shortcuts for, say, 10 alignments with a program.
Has anyone ever tried that with the C3D API?
The prog would have to see whats available in a given project, and you select a bunch of *whatever* that is available to
make shortcuts to.
I can write it if the API lets me.

we'll see...
I wonder if there is a way to make them ourselves, as they are just xml files right?
You might have to find a way to refresh the toolspace once the files are made, or maybe reopen the drawing...
