Count Styles

Is there a way to determine the number of styles in a drawing?

Hi,

AFAIK not with 2010 (without dev).

With Civil3D2012 you have a command _PURGESTYLES that shows a number (of purgeable) styles plus copy&paste of the list is supported. Maybe this is a help.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

_PURGESTYLES gives me 552 styles. So I'll go with that  for now. Thanks.

It looks like there are about 70 unpurgable standard styles that won't show in that list. But it's a good start.

Hi Allen,

sorry, I have never did a check of this number. And as the count is for purgeable styles then the "Standard"-styles will not be counted within that group.

I find it interesting how you got the number 70 that fast - without having an option to count anything in another way yet 😉

Hello Alfred,

I used the old manual guesstimate method. I started a drawing with no template then used the purgestyles command. After that I'm left with a Standard style for each item that uses a style. I expanded each item in the prospector and counted how many times I saw Styles. I got just under 70 and rounded up.

Thanks for the help!

Curious, why would you need to know the total number of styles in a drawing.

I need to give an estimate of the time to revise them.

The purge command only gives you the unused styles, there are styles embedded in the command settings that are considered "used" styles and will not show up in that list that represent a significant percentage of the total styles.  If you have a fully customized template you could be looking at missing out on several hundred styles.

I, too, am looking for a way to count the styles as part of some purge testing I'm doing.

Allen I would consider using vb.net.
Target the styles and assign a counter.

Fairly simple (I think) and you could get used and unused styles. I'll have a look tomorrow if i get the time and see if I can assist further.

It has occurred to me; we missed a trick.

Start a new drawing and all standard styles are created, if you now import the styles into this drawing you will get a result that is all the styles not in the current drawing excluding the Standard ones.

So you should get a full count from that.

Mike,

Thanks for all the suggestions. Hopefully they will help someone searching on this topic in the future. In my case the need has come and gone. Project bid, accepted and completed. I was asked to create a metric template that mirrored a clients imperial template so I needed an idea of how many styles I would need to edit.
