corridor surface not linking to existing surface

I have created a corridor and a surface from the corridor that looks fine from R/W to R/W...however it seems to disreguard my existing surface...I am using "link slope to furface" at 3:1 for both cut and fill...I have specified my target surface as my existing surface...I have specified top links for overhang correction...horizontally and vertically I have way more than enuf existing surface to daylight to...I have never had this problem before, any thoughts, ideas or insight will be gratefully received...
