Convert LLD anonymous Point Blocks to C3D Points

OK, I a little stuck here.

I have an old LDD drawing and all of the Point Blocks are anonymous names. (ie *U###) and I'm trying to convert them to C3D Points. I'm thinking that instead of using the AEC Object they used the Point Block for the Marker.

Is there any way to convert these blocks to C3D points.

Note: When I explode the turn to lines and text only.

If they're anonymous that means they were part of a block and exploded. Point blocks should be named Point I believe. The only way I can think of is to rename one block to point and then convert it. Purge the Point block and then do the next. Sounds painful. I'll think about this. I haven't had my LDD hat on for a while.

They may be old AEC point exploded or Softdesk pointblocks that were blocked together and then exploded. No just tried exploding and AEC Point and you don't end up with an anonymous block. Civil 3D points when exploded yield anonymous blocks.

I had tried the RENAME put C3D wont let me rename an anonymous block, just tells me its an invalid old name.

I was thinking along the same lines that it was either, aec points that were blocked into a drawing which then lost then lost there way somehow and became anonymous. (I too have not used LDD for a long time.) I fired up the old LDD machine 🙂 and say it was looking for a certain project. So I know that they were point objects at some point.

Yeah. I've been trying and run in to the same problems. You may end up having to use DataExtraction to create a CSV file. If you find the old LDD project you should be able to reinsert the points from the point database.

I tried data extraction, but it did not yeild anything.

I do have the higher powers search for a point file or the original project

Can you send the dwg to me, or a small portion of it? I may be able to help using something I did a number of years ago. jeffm AT quuxsoft DOT com

Attached is a lisp file that will convert the anonymous blocks to Point blocks. These can then be converted to C3D points with the C3D ConvertSoftdeskPointBlocks command. Load the lisp when in the drawing with the points, command name is anon2pointblocks.

I know this thread is almost 10 years old, but I recently encountered the same issue. I attempted to use the routine you kindly provided, but it didn't work. Could this be due to the newer versions of Civil 3D? My drawing contains more than 5600 points, and creating each one manually would be an endless task.

I took the liberty of uploading the file. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide.
