Contour Labels

I created a contour label style with a particular layer applied to it. Every time I create contour labels, they always end up on C-TOPO-TEXT instead of on the layer I created. I set the Contour Labeling Defaults to the label style I made, thus any labels I generate should be on the layer I set in the label style. I must be overlooking a setting somewhere. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Wil

I believe the contour lables are actually on two layers in a manner of speaking.  The object that is the label may be on C-TOPO-TEXT.  However the "linework" is on whatever layer you have set in the "Label Style Composer."  You should be able to turn off or freeze your CUSTOMLAYER and see the changes.

Wil-

To change the default from C-TOPO-TEXT, Go to the Settings TAB in your Toolspace.

Right click on the drawing name at the top of the list and select Edit Drawing Settings.

Go to the Object Layers TAB. scroll down to Tin Surface-Labeling.

Change your layer here. All future contour label "blocks" will be on this layer. Previous contour labels "blocks" will remain on the previous layer.

You can think to it a little like AutoCAD Blocks.

You have the layer the block in inserted into (Object Layer) and then, you have the sub entities that compose your block, which may be in different layers (that would be the layers defined in your different surface label styles).

In case the layer in label style is set to 0, then the label will go in the layer defined in Object Layer, otherwise will go in the layer it is defined to go to in the style.
You can try to turn OFF and/or FREEZE the "main" Object Layer to see the different results you get, then you can play by freezing the layer defined in your surface label style.
This open for some interresting options when it come to turning on all or only some of the tin surface labels...
