Construction Staking

We use Trimble survey controlers and Trimble Geomatics Office to generate
and stakeout or projects. When it comes to parking lots or roads with lots
of transitions the software/hardware is too limited to be efficient. We have
considered generating alignments for the edge of pavements and applying curb
sections using road link and DTMLink but the contractors want everything
tied to the centerline stationing so this is not a great solution. We want
to get away from creating COGO points to handle the staking since they are
inflexible (ie. contractor wants offsets every 20 feet, not 25 feet).

We might consider switching to other hardware if we can find software that
is better suited for construction staking. Ideally we would like the road
staking tools to work like they do in CAD, i.e. a road template can be
stretched to follow an alignment and profile for the edge of pavement. Is
there anything out there that can do this?

Hi Neil,

We use leica 1200's but - we handle it by, as you suggest, "generating alignments for the edge of pavements and applying curb sections" . The leica's are able to setout one alignment but give the stationing of the centreline (or any other alignment) at the same time. This solves the problem for us. Maybe the trimbles do this also?

As far as I know Trimble can't but I'll have the
surveyors look into it. What you have would be great!
