Civil 3D Survey Question

We have an issue entering points and the results.

2-pc's. Both with Civil 3D. I get different answers entering same information. Checked drawing settings (toolspace/edit drawing settings).

Any light on this matter will help us.

Thanks.

What is the bearing of the base line?

thanks, I think the bearing of the line is irrelevant at this point. The way "this" particular info is entered is: create points by side shot entries. Then rotate to 2 known points.

Thanks.

Yep, irrelevant to me as well.  Use a data collector.

Since the only obvious differences between the 2 images from the different computers are a difference in bearings and a lack of sideshots. The first thoughts when looking at them is that you're asking why the bearing system is different. Since you say the bearing is irrelevant. Can we now say that you're asking why the sideshots don't appear?

Good morning,

Both computers entered the same set of side shots as shown in the field book. One user plotted with the points on, the one didn't. The distances on the lines (see field book sketch where the field guy wrote what the plat calls and what he found) are different. If both drawings entered the same information, why the difference in distances?

Thanks.

Are you using the Obeservation Editor in the survey tab?  I would check all the units settings for the database and drawing.

Check your angle entry method, decimal versus DMS.

Do it by hand for a check, it is a fairly small amount of work.

thanks,

The surveyor checked the entries with his calculator as soon as there were differences in the lines. He got the same info as the field guy. That's when we went into entering the info in a different computer.

How/where do I check the angle method you mentioned?

I can't tell from images. Have you gone through all the checks? All data entry was good, if hand drawn all lines snapped to the points, label styles identical on both machines, both set for international or Survey feet, etc. I know you checked the drawing setting but these are some specifics.

Try reentering the info on both computers and see if you get the same results.

BTW Were the check distances in the field measured directly with tape or EDM or computed using the shots in the field book?

For the database, on the survey toolspace tab, right-click the name of the database and select edit database settings.

For the drawing, on the settings toolspace tab, right-click the name of the drawing and select edit drawing settings, then go to the ambient settings tab.

Well, I must add that we are all new working on civil 3D 2013 and small setting might had slipped here and there. We have been learning some things as we go. However, with the settings for a drawing being extensive, and if you don't look in the right place you won't find it, where do I check the entering the angle in the right unit?

About the ckeck distances on the field book? I am nt sure how the field guy gets it, but 99% of the time, what he writes on the book is what we get here at the office after entering the points and snapping to the nodes.

Thanks!

you can also check your angles by drawing lines from the trav to the sideshots and doing an angle check.  I am guessing that the error you are seeing is based on DMS vs decimal inputs.

Obviously one of those drawings isn't translated, correct? Beacuse the bearings are nowhere near each other and North is parrallel on one and perpendicular on the other.

we checked the angles. Angles matched.

About DMS and decimal: that might be the culprit.

Toolspace/edit drawing settings/ambient settings/direction/format dd.mmssss (decimal dms)

Toolspace/edit drawing settings/ambient settings/angle/format dd.mmssss (decimal dms)

Am I in the right spot?

One drawing was rotated to plat, the other one wasn't.

Thanks!

Those look right .

I'd also check your Units Tab. This is how I think yours might be set since I'm thinking your not working in any zone.
