Civil 3D site model from grading objects

Autodesk Civil 3D 2012
I have a model it’s based on a site with grading objects. my grading object have 5 different targets along the run. when I first set up every look right, even the model. when I look at the site property it show all the surface targets. when I close and open the drawing some of the grading object are not in the model anymore. The grading object show the correct target surface. The site property is missing the target surface. any ides would be appreciated.

This is why I don't use gradings...Sorry for the bad news but IMO gradings disappear and become corrupt (or vice versa) if you do not explode them.

that's what everyone tells me and I have in the past.
the current project is in design mode and exploding means to have to recreate for every change
where keeping as grading objects allows for changes with dynamic results
exploding will create 100 times more work than having the grading dynamic

will wait and see if anyone else has a fix.

this must be consider a poor design in Civil 3D, I have had other issues and the answers is to break things down to their basic element which defeats the whole purpose of using the software.

thanks for your reply

It's not possible to diagnose your problem from your description. You'll need to post at least part of your drawing.

Gradings are prone to corrupting as you are seeing. Sometimes you have little choice but to keep re-doing your work when they do.

Yes it's hard to give a proper description,

everyone I talk to says the same thing, grading objects corrupt, you need to explode them
so far my only option is to explode the grading which I have done in the past. This time however it will create a lot more work for any design changes

The only thing I see is in the site (toolspace - prospector) there is a group name, when you right click properties it show all the grading info and target surfaces.
However when you close and open some of the target surface are not there and those are the missing grading objects. the grading object will still show the target surface but it's not in the model.

if you regrade it will add it back in the site and model, close and its gone

thanks for the reply

I'll add my 2 cents

I would say "projection" grading can be finicky but gradings (infills and feature lines)  IMHO are quite stable. I'd go as far as to say more stable than adding feature lines to a surfacce as breakline data.

Try it you'LL like it - makes grading more like grading instead of modeling.
