Civil 3D model galleries?

Does anyone know of a gallerey for posting and viewing models created in
Civil 3D? I would like to look at 3D models of grading projects. If there
are no galleries, I hope that users might offer to post some screen caps of
their sites. They do not need to be polished renderings, just a shaded TIN
with contours would be adequate.

you know, you would think:
http://civilcommunity.autodesk.com

would have tons of pics, but I could not find anything there.
Some decent utils and things though.

I've got some slick screenshots to post there if anyone can tell me where to post to.

I know the Civil3d.com site has some pics on it.

I see some pretty sophisticated grading there Dana. Nice work. Also those
renderings by TSE in James' link are awesome. Please post more when you can.

You need to look for the portfolio's - there are only a few.

I've put a couple up there.

Hi Neil
Have a look at my web site below, haven updated anything to it from when I went to Au last year but it has some.
http://civil3dave.blogspot.com/

I was talking to Robert Gadbaw about putting forward a class this year at Au on styles (parcels, code-set and corridors). I have been working very hard with my team on styles over the last few months. Presentation drawing and images from Civil3d are coming out very sharp and quick.

My questions is would this be something that you the user would be keen on seeing at Au.

I can't speak for the many but we seldom use 3D presentations other than a
simple shaded TIN model. My main interest here is to see how users have used
C3d in various grading scenarios. It may lead to further inquiries about how
certain situations were handled.

I been told that grading is more stable in 2009. So there will be more peple useing it.

I've been hearing that for the last 2-3 yrs, yet after a few months into the
new release the complaints start rolling in. I have to wonder how the beta
testers determine whether grading is more stable. Is there some way to
quantitatively evaluate it's stability over another release or is it just a
gut feel after playing around with it? We'll have to wait and see (again).

By the way I see now where the renderings for that quarry on James' site
came from. Nice work there! What software did you use to render it?
Certainly not Civil 3D.

I have done fly over with RDV. But all my still images are in civil3d it can render just like any other package.

I've used the grading in both 2007 and 2008. 2008 is definitely better. 2007 hardly worked on anything for me. I've been using C3D in production for almost two years.

I'm impressed with the rendering. I was told in private that the
visualization was not done in C3D. Apparently they were mis-informed. I'd
rather keep it confidential so please don't ask who.

I admit I am quite an amateur when it comes to rendering. I have done some
very simple renderings but nothing I would feel is worthy to share.

Sedona Arizona. My grandmother spoke of wanting to go to New Zealand because
of it's beauty and it has intrigued me ever since (got any openings for a
Civil Designer?). Nice to meet you Dave.

We are always looking for good designers.

Our dollar is 80 cent to yours. But we have fanttasic landscaps and our schools don't have metal detectors.

First I would like to say that the Civil3d.com site is fantastic and so is
your book. The examples from the portfolio section of Civil3d.com are
equally assuring that the civil 3d software is worth switching to. I am
currently in the process of getting a firm grip on civil3d. I know the
theory behind getting from a-z with C3d but your examples help enforce that
it can be done. I am most interested in one screen-shot (render) in
particular (35 of 42) in your picasa web album. It is the aerial
photography render with what appears to be a proposed benched retaining wall
structure. I have been attempting to duplicate similar renders with GIS
aerials / materials / and surfaces / DEMs. I can not achieve the same level
of detail with the raw aerial photo portion of the draping as seen in the
render. Can you offer any hints has to exactly what software was used to
achieve this effect and/or third party tools. I am experiencing massive
crashing while attempting to duplicate that level of render detail to a
massive surface with a stock install of civil3d. I have a hunch that it is
not entirely possible to achieve that render with just Civil3d and a normal
workstation. My best results are along the lines of what you would get out
of google earth. I have been chasing my tail with OOTB civil3d attempting
this type of render and just knowing that the render in question was created
with either a supercomputer or in-house tool would save me a ton of time.

Super computer? Dave could only wish! 😃

The specs for his PC are:
Windows XP | SP2
Pentium 2.4GHz | 2GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro 540 | 128MB

(OK, so it's not exactly a slug either 😉 ).
And he thinks that it was running 2008 with no service packs at that stage.

He ran the rendering on presentation level, at 1024 x 768. We had quite high-res aerial photography for that project as well, so that obviously helped.

So, no - no super computers here. Just plenty of hard graft and some #8 wire.

Thanks, so what you are saying is that it will take a reasonable amount
dedication and ingenuity to get such a stunning result. I am probably SOL
then. My last attempt at a rendering like this was for a Quarry reclamation
project and it looked great if it was being reclaimed as a moon base. To
show my appreciation for the help, I will brighten your day with my shoddy
attempt for your wall of shame. If you had seen the high resolution tiff I
have available and/or what the site actually looks like, you would probably
take my computer away from me. If you need any renderings of a space
outpost, please keep me in mind.

Thanks again!
