Civil 3D Cad Machines

What kind of pc is recommended to run this program efficiently? Or wouldnt
it make a difference?

Right now were running Dell Precision 370, 2.8 P4, 1.5 GB Ram, and 128 Agp,
and this thing drags when i'm in any dwg of any normal size (couple
corridors, profiles, pipes, sections, etc.).

If a better machine will make a difference, I think we'll be better off
spending the $ than spending half the day waiting for regens and everything
else?

We dont have to stick with Dell. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

There is a hardware NG where these types of questions are discussed over and
over. It's certainly worth having a look around there.

You didn't mention you hard disk - but that's the slowest item in the system
and anything done to speed it up would help.

I use a pair of 10,000 rpm disks with Raid 0 for working data (backup
systems essential as failure of one of the two disks means full data loss)

Do you have a network connection - is that slowing you down?
Have you checked your system for spyware etc. etc. etc?

You could get a faster machine, but personally, think civil 3d is just slow, no matter what. We have a machine custom built from a local shop: Athlon 64, 2GB Ram, 80 Gig SATA HD, some kind of nice nVidia video card, and it still drags. It's lighting compared to the owners laptop which has about half of everything I just mentioned, but it still can be unbearably slow sometimes. Before you spend money on a new machine, try separating your drawings with projects.
